Thank you Zom! This was originally posted at Elmmoss Academy.
Hello! Zom here, lookin' to pick a fight witchoo.
Okay, not a fight- but listen up before I make Dave shoot you multiple times in the skull. I thought I'd share my wisdom with yall. After all, it seems I am the eldest on this site, and thus should shower my young ones with helpful tips and hints.
PLEASE DO NOT TAKE ANY OFFENSE TO WHAT I AM SAYING. THESE ARE NOT MEANT TO TARGET ANYONE, BUT ARE JUST GENERAL THINGS THAT EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW.
There's been a lot of inactivity recently (yes, yes, I know.. I did It too. <__<; ) and I'd really like to see this place hoppin' again. Don't be afraid to make open threads, or send someone a private message about some fabulous idea between your character and theirs. Even better yet, do like what me and Charley did and exchange IMs so you can freely talk to one another.
Roleplaying is important to this site, but so is our OOC community! I think the lack of roleplaying here is due to the fact that nobody talks to each other outside the occasional message via the cbox. Don't be strangers to one another! Swapping ideas and chatting about each other's characters is all part of the experience! Don't be scared to take the plunge and let your creative juices floooww!
Okay, now I'm done with THAT peptalk- lets talk about something else.
So, I've been rereading over some threads, and have realized that a fair amount of posts are written without the use of spellcheck. Now, I can understand one or two lil' spelling errors here or there, and I myself and a horrific speller- but thats why I
A. Write my posts in microsoft word
B. Use FIREFOX as my main browser.
If you are lazy about copying in pasting, firefox is great because it has a built in spellcheck, that does all the work for you! On top of that, Firefox in general is a whole lot safer for your computer, and thus you don't get as many viruses and whatnot invading your precious. Take advantage of a free gift has been given!
I would recommend not being so hasty when making these posts- sometimes the brain thinks a bit faster then the fingers can type, and sentences can end up a bit mashed together and confusing!
It would be a great idea if everyone reread their posts before pressing that shiny 'submit' button. I tend to look at the preview of my post, fix whatever sounds a bit awkward, and THEN submit it. It saves the embarrassment of rereading that post a few hours later and going
"oh my dear lord Jesus, what the hell was I thinking.."
You should take pride in what you write- treat it as such.
Also, keep in mind the placement of events going on in your roleplay. When someone says what, their movements, ectect. Actions are a bit tricky to respond to, but if you do it right, your partner will be much appreciated.
Speaking of appreciation! My final section of this doohicky..
Expand your writing length! Reach for new heights! There is nothing more aggravating (for me at least) then writing a post only to have my partner give me a measly 200 word comeback, while I'm shoveling out twice that long posts. It makes me feel rather put-out, and doesn't inspire me to write well. I work to match length, and if you are gonna be giving me 200 word posts, I'll swing 200 right back at you. Just because the word limit for posts is in fact, 200..doesn't mean you should make it your maximum. There is a price for being lazy, and I'm not the one suffering.
Elmmoss is a place to learn and harness that muse.. don't let an old girl down, eh?
Anyway, hope you enjoyed my fun lil rant.. I hope it didn't feel like I'm chastising any of yall because I'm not. ;__; It's just things that I thought should be addressed. And if not by your granny figure- who would?!
Feel free to throw flaming bombs of fury at me now? xD
